We are excited to announce the 2025 U.S. Senate Sergeant at Arms (SAA) Summer Internship Program, a prestigious, paid internship program that provides exceptional college and trade school students with an unparalleled opportunity to experience Senate operations. The SAA is a non-partisan office that plays a crucial role in supporting Senate operations and providing security and technology services to Senators and Senate offices.
The SAA Summer Internship Program is a highly competitive program that offers a rare and invaluable insight into Senate careers. This opportunity combines challenging work assignments with intensive educational programing, offering selected interns an unique introduction to the Legislative Branch.
Internships can start as soon as Monday, May 12, 2025 and can last through Friday, August 29, 2025.

The U.S. Senate Sergeant at Arms (SAA) serves as the Senate’s chief law enforcement and protocol officer and is the executive officer responsible for a host of support services at the Senate. The SAA organization is responsible for all Senate computers, software, equipment and technology support; oversees broadcasting of Senate floor proceedings and committee hearings; provides audio video recording and photographic services; and offers printing and graphics and telecommunications services. Eligible students must:
have completed at least one year of college and be enrolled for the coming fall semester OR be enrolled in a technical/trade school.
be willing to start the intern assignment no earlier than May 12, 2025, and no later than July 7, 2025.
commit to work a minimum of eight 40-hour work weeks.
pass a criminal background investigation.
demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills.

During the application process, summer intern candidates must disclose any family members who currently work for the SAA. While the SAA may hire candidates whose family members work for the SAA, interns must independently meet the SAA’s qualification standards and be selected based upon their own individual merits.

Individuals who have previously held SAA internships are not eligible for a second internship, except with the specific written approval of SAA Human Resources. Candidates must disclose whether they have previously held an internship with the SAA.
- The program provides SAA offices with additional assistance during the busy summer months.
- The program introduces college students to the SAA and the Senate through work assignments and educational programs.
- The program provides a potential pipeline of qualified candidates for future employment within SAA offices, should an intern meet the criteria and qualifications for such employment after they graduate.
- Summer interns will work on-site. Certain positions may allow for partial remote work, but full-time remote is not an option for summer interns.
